Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under home detention pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

This included trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His offspring, Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

His son wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your couch? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could "pray for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's determination was the chance of his "relocation to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a history of planning to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The legal document emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the federal district, the capital city, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

His judicial problems have generated frustration from fellow populist conservative United States President Trump, leading him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being kept in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will experience a imprisonment assessment on Sunday.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.

They also asked that the former president be permitted to leave his home for medical care, saying he needed ongoing care for lung conditions and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

He was determined responsible of leading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the national vote to his political opponent, Lula.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a plan which involved plans to murder his opponent and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.

The plot was thwarted because it failed to get the endorsement of the army and air force commanders. Lula was inaugurated without problem on January 1st, 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, thousands of his followers attacked and damaged government buildings in the capital, the capital city.

The law enforcement intervened and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The judges found that the rioters had been provoked by the former president whose scheme, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, restore order and bring him back to power.

At the time, his attorneys called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also banned from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - a decade minus two years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the 2026 national vote.
